Faculty of Medicine

MESSAGE FROM THE DEAN

Welcome to the Faculty of Medicine

The Undergraduate Medical Education Program (MD) of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Ottawa, although still relatively young, is rapidly growing and is unique in Canada: it offers medical education in both of Canada’s official languages. Thus, with its recent additional mandate to train students of aboriginal background, the Faculty of Medicine is uniquely grounded in Canada’s history and poised to grow with this distinction. The emphasis of the training at the Faculty is three-fold: competency and skills, professionalism and role modeling, and engagement and leadership in health care delivery. This latter aspect, still not part of many medical school curricula, is a specific focus at our Faculty and will be supported by the unique opportunities offered by the national and international institutions in our nation’s capital, Ottawa.

The Faculty also offers programs in postgraduate residency medical education, as well as in graduate studies (Master's and Doctorate (PhD) degrees) in Biochemistry, Microbiology and Immunology, Cellular and Molecular Medicine, Neuroscience, and Epidemiology and Community Medicine, leading to career opportunities in research.
