Faculty of Arts

MESSAGE FROM THE DEAN

“What kind of job can I get with an Arts degree?”

This is a question we hear often at the Faculty of Arts, one that we usually answer by asking “What are you passionate about?”

Very simply, students who love their programs of study find jobs that they love. In fact, our graduates enjoy exciting careers, both in Canada and abroad, in which they apply the skills they acquired at the Faculty of Arts. Some of these highly sought-after, transferable skills include critical thinking, creative problem-solving, and the ability to effectively analyze issues, take decisions, and communicate the results–all of which are valuable assets when faced with today’s complex challenges.

But what if you haven’t yet figured out what interests you?

No problem. We offer nearly a hundred options in languages and literatures, fine arts and the humanities; this allows you to build a program that is tailored to your interests. You can also register in the General Bachelor’s degree and take a variety of courses before deciding on a discipline.

While you’re studying at the Faculty of Arts, you may also want to take advantage of other opportunities at the University of Ottawa: spend a session or a full year on an international exchange, participate in the CO-OP program and gain some work experience, or take a few courses in French to improve your second-language skills. You can even take part in several of these opportunities at once.

Join us in the Faculty of Arts, the oldest faculty at the University of Ottawa, proud of its 125-year heritage!
