Faculty of Law (Common Law)

MESSAGE FROM THE DEAN

Welcome to the Common Law Section of the University of Ottawa!

The Common Law Section of the Faculty of Law of University of Ottawa offers a wide range of courses allowing for deep and diversified legal studies. Our faculty consists of internationally recognized academics who excel in teaching law.

The Common Law Section welcomes a large percentage of its students from outside the province of Ontario. We offer four integrated degree programs, and numerous exchange opportunities abroad. Common Law offers an intensive semester in January that allows specialization in dispute resolution in first-year and the possibility of instruction from renowned international professors in upper years. We offer national and international internships in public, private and non-profit organizations for academic credits. Students can work at several legal clinics to apply their knowledge in the context of real problems. Our Faculty offers research opportunities and specializations in environmental law, social justice, international investment law, Aboriginal law, public law and law and technology as well as in dispute resolution and professionalism.

There is no environment more conducive to the study of law than the National Capital Region. Parliament and the Supreme Court are within walking distance of our campus. Several international organizations also have their headquarters in the area.

Our law school reflects the rich diversity of Canada and is committed to excellence in legal education and access to justice. We look forward to welcoming you to the University of Ottawa to complete your studies in law.
