Women's Studies

The undergraduate program of the Institute of Women's Studies offers students the opportunity to explore the status, experiences and contributions of women in past and present society. It fosters interdisciplinary approaches to the study of women through its core courses (course code FEM) and through various courses that examine issues relevant to women from different perspectives in diverse disciplines. Students will acquire theoretical and methodological skills needed to carry out research and intervention work on, and with, women, and to participate as such in the improvement of women's status in society.

The pluridisciplinary training offered in women's studies provides students with analytical, research and assessment skills in tune with the needs and day-to-day realities of women in health, education, law, labour, arts and the media. As a result, graduates can take on any number of positions both in government and in public, private and paragovernmental agencies dedicated to improving gender relations in society.

Combined with an honours program in a discipline offered by the University, the concentration program in women's studies provides excellent preparation for graduate studies in one of the twelve disciplines which participates in the collaborative program in women's studies at the master’s level.
