Theatre

The Department of Theatre offers programs that permit students to be introduced to the diverse practical
applications of the theatrical arts, and the varied areas of research in theatre studies.

The programs integrate the dominant English and French theatrical traditions; this complementary approach
encourages students to explore both traditions.

Ample opportunity is provided for involvement in theatrical productions which are considered to be an
integral part of the theatre programs.

The Department of Theatre is responsible for courses with codes beginning with THE and AMT.

Theatre Companies of the Department

Drama Guild
The Drama Guild is the English-language company of the Department of Theatre.

Comédie des Deux Rives
La Comédie des Deux Rives is the French-language company of the Department of Theatre.

Workshop II / Théâtre 100 Unicorn Theatre / Théâtre de la Licorne
The Workshop II / Théâtre 100 and Unicorn Theatre / Théâtre de la Licorne are the companies of the students in directing courses of the Department at various levels.

Participation in departmental productions is open to all. Productions serve as apprenticeship laboratories in
which students gain familiarity with all aspects of the theatrical event. The goal of the productions is to
expand the theatrical horizons of the community.

Programs

1. Certain courses required for the honours program are bilingual.
2. Because of the highly specialized nature of certain studio courses, in particular the directing and acting
courses, the Department may require an interview, an audition, or another form of evaluation. Enrolment in
those courses will be limited.
3. Any theatre course given in English may be replaced by the equivalent course given in French, in

consultation with the Department.
