Welcome to the Institute of Women's Studies

How far have women come? What about sexism and racism? How do social relationships between women and men impact society? The Institute of Women's Studies gives you the knowledge and tools you need to both answer these questions and help improve the well-being of more than half the human race. Created in 1999 to promote feminist education and research in a bilingual and multicultural setting, the Institute represents a turning point in the history of Women's Studies at the University of Ottawa

Recognized throughout Canada and abroad, the Institute offers innovative undergraduate and graduate programs and welcomes an array of conferences and seminars every year. Its professors, its international education and research projects and its extensive network of affiliated researchers, assure the Institute an outstanding reputation among women's groups and associations, research organizations and employers throughout the national capital region. At the Institute, you will receive an interdisciplinary and critical education. On the strength of this training, you can readily enter any number of fields, from research and community development to human rights and health services.

We hope to see you at the Institute of Women's Studies in the future!
