ADDITIONAL REMUNERATION FOR ADMINISTRATIVE ACTIVITIES

INTRODUCTION

1. When assigning a professor's workload for each school year, the Dean can vary the proportion of work assigned to the professor in teaching in research and in administration.

2. Article 51 of the Collective Agreement stipulates that extra remuneration for administrative duties must reflect an excess workload and special responsibilities.

3. The salaries of professors involved in the administration of the faculty can no longer be increased by way of the Anomaly Fund without a special agreement with the Union.

POLICY

4. The Dean may ask the Administrative Committee to grant to a department chair or to a professor who has an equivalent administrative duty, an extra remuneration not exceeding $5,000 annually, for the duration of his contract term, subject to the following provisions:

  • a) the professor whose teaching and research load equals that of colleagues in the same unit may benefit from the maximum extra remuneration;
  • b) all reductions in workload will entail a decrease in the extra remuneration;
  • c) the size and complexity of the department will help in determining the amount of extra remuneration and/or the reduction in duties;
  • d) the reduction in duties cannot be such that the professor does neither teaching (including thesis direction), nor research;
  • e) a professor who receives extra remuneration for administrative duties and who benefits from a decrease in workload shall not be remunerated for teaching an additional course;
  • f) the Dean may grant another form of compensation to the professor, for example, technical assistance, a research assistant, etc.

EXCEPTION

5. No exception may be made to this policy without the written consent of the Administrative Committee.
