Mental health is a growing challenge for organizations and schools. It is estimated that an employee dealing with depression will lose an average of 27 work days each year, and that as many as 60 percent of student dropouts at university and college may be due to mental illness.
Meeting this challenge will depend in part on developing tools and resources that can be accessed by people in their workplaces and schools on a daily basis, in just minutes a day, ideally before they develop any sign of illness.
MyHealthMagazine is a revolutionary resource developed by uOttawa professor Darcy Santor. The magazine was developed to help people at schools and in workplaces increase their mental-health literacy and make decisions about their mental health. The online magazine and smartphone app contain a wealth of resources, including an online directory of helplines, information on what to do when things go wrong and a library of screening tools and interactive quizzes.
Professor Santor's 30-minute lecture during uOttawa Alumni Week will highlight the challenges associated with mental health, as well as the innovative solutions that this set of tools offers.
