Morning keynote
Search and Destroy: Using Viruses to Treat Cancer Patients
Viruses aren't all bad. Find out how Professor John Bell is creating virus-based therapeutics that seek out and finish off cancerous tumours. This extraordinary medical scientist will also present the results of his work from early tests on cancer patients. You'll be amazed at what these miniature biological machines can do.
Who:
John Bell, PhD, Full Professor, Department of Biochemistry, Microbiology and Immunology; Senior Scientist, Ottawa Hospital Research Institute

Professor's notes
Please note that the professor's notes are in the language of the lecture.
Current cancer therapeutics are limited because of some of the side effects of the treatment. Dr. John Bell is developing targeted therapeutics that destroy tumours without causing significant side effects for patients. He focuses on creating virus-based therapeutics that specifically infect and kill cancers without affecting normal tissues. In essence, he creates miniature biological machines that seek out and destroy tumours in multiple ways. He will present results from early tests of this treatment in cancer patients.
