A Place for Clinical Care and Research Leadership: Inside the Innovations at the uOttawa Heart Institute
Since its founding in 1976 by Dr. Wilbert Keon, the University of Ottawa Heart Institute (UOHI) has emphasized research, innovation and quality of care, and built an inspired team that focuses sharply on the needs and outcomes of patients. Dr. Marc Ruel, chief of cardiac surgery at UOHI and a cardiac surgeon who recently performed the institute's 500th heart transplant, provides a fascinating look into recent and looming innovations in cardiac surgery and the leading role our city and the institute play in fostering these innovative ideas, tools and methods, and spreading them around the world. Marc Ruel will then team up with Wilbert Keon, who performed the institute's first heart transplant in 1976, to answer questions in a moderated question-and-answer session. This rare event is one you don't want to miss!

Following Marc Ruel's presentation, the University of Ottawa will present Wilbert Keon with an award to recognize his commitment to cardiac health and his career as a heart transplant pioneer.
Dr. Jacques Bradwejn, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, will interview Drs. Ruel and Keon and moderate a question-and-answer session.
