First Capital Hoops title for Gee-Gees women’s team
The colours of pride were garnet and grey as the women’s basketball team was crowned winner of Capital Hoops Wednesday, January 18. The women captured their first Capital Hoops title with a 59-55 victory against the Carleton University Ravens. The women’s and men’s basketball teams took on the Carleton Ravens under the bright lights of Scotiabank Place for the sixth annual MBNA Capital Hoops Classic, Ottawa’s premiere basketball event. While it was a win for the women’s team, the men’s team lost to the undefeated Ravens 74-34.
There has always been a heated rivalry between the Gee-Gees and the Ravens. The Gee-Gees men’s team has only won the title of Capital Hoops champions once, at the inaugural game in 2007. This is the first time that the Gee-Gees women’s team has won the title.
Congratulations to all the players for their commendable performance. At the University of Ottawa, everyone is a Gee-Gee!
