1. Life Insurance.
The
University provides its retirees with life insurance coverage the amount of
which is determined as follows:
(a) Pension Plan members who
joined the University before July 1, 1976: equal to 50% of their salary at
time of retirement.
(b) Pension Plan members who
joined the University after July 1, 1976:
·
those with less
than 10 years of service: $2,000;
·
those with 10 or
more years of service:10% of their final salary with a
minimum of $2000 and a maximum of $5000.
2. University Identification Card.
It
is recommended that retirees obtain a University Identification card (UID card)
as soon as possible after retiring. The UID card can be obtained during
regular business hours from the Human Resources Office at Room 019, Tabaret
Hall. An appointment is not necessary. A picture will be taken and the card
immediately processed. Retired professors are identified by the A/E code (Academic/Enseignant)
on the card.
3. Academic Courses.
Retirees
may, without paying tuition fees, attend courses as special students or for
credit subject to the usual academic requirements (including requirements
regarding admission to programs). Retirees may also audit courses subject to
space availability. Tuition fee exemption is available for a retiree’s
spouse, children, and dependents in accordance with sections 40.6.1.1 and
40.6.1.2 of the current APUO Collective Agreement.
4. Library Privileges.
With
a UID card a retiree receives the same privileges as a part-time professor, i.e.,
regular borrowing privileges of 75 documents (books, videos etc.) for 28 days
and, on presentation of a UID card with an A/E code, enjoy borrowing
privileges from all Ontario Universities with reciprocal agreements. Emeritus,
adjunct and visiting professors are entitled to 75 documents per session. A
$2.00 fee is charged for books loaned from other libraries.
5. University Bookstore.
The
University Bookstore provides retirees with a 10% rebate on books of general
interest upon presentation of their A/E UID card. Retirees may also purchase
computer equipment and supplies at the posted educational discount prices.
6. Parking privileges.
Upon
presentation of your UID card, a free day pass for outdoor parking (week-ends
only) can be obtained from the Protection Services, Parking and Traffic
located in the Brooks Complex, 100 Thomas More. Also, indoor parking at
Brooks is $3.80 per hour (maximum $11.00 per day), but seniors (65+) pay half
that amount.
7. Electronic Mail – Internet Services.
Retired
Professors are now able to access the University’s e-mail service through
their own Internet server. This will enable members to acquire/maintain the
use of their “uottawa.ca” e-mail address. To register, call the Client
Services of the Computer Centre at 562-5800 ext. 6555, or contact them by
e-mail at cybersos@uottawa.ca.
You will be asked to provide your retiree UID card number. This service will
be available for life. However, it will be removed when not utilized for a
period of 12 months.
8. Health Insurance.
When
a member retires prior to the normal retirement date set out in the
University
of
Ottawa Pension
Plan, the member may, until he/she
attains such normal retirement age, participate in the supplementary
health and dental insurance benefits provided to active members.
Where
the member opts to so participate, he/she shall pay the employer’s
contribution for that benefit
plan.
At
age
65, a
retiree can join group benefits medical plans offered by Manulife Financial (Follow
Me Plan) and the Municipal Retirees’ Organization Ontario (MROO) Extended
Health Care & Dental Care to complement provincial medical coverage for
seniors. Retirees who were covered under the University health insurance plan
at retirement will be able to join the plans without completing a medical
questionnaire provided they apply within 60 days of leaving the University
group plan. They will also be able to receive dental coverage if they were
covered under the University dental plan.
If
a member applies after 60 days of leaving the University Plan, he/she is
required to complete a medical questionnaire.
Retirees
may purchase group coverage for either a private or semi-private hospital
room.
For
information and application forms contact June Lemay at Human Resources
(562-5800 ext. 1747.)
Members
who retired on or after 1 May 2001 now have access to a Health Care Spending
Account ($1010 for 2006). The programme, administered by Manulife Financial,
will reimburse eligible members for expenses normally associated with health
and dental benefits plans as stimulated in the current collective agreement.
9. Sports services.
Montpetit
Hall: Free basic
membership with A/E UID card. Retirees pay active members’ rate for the
various programmes and activities. IUD card must be activated annually at the
clients services desk (Concourse level).
Fitness
and Wellness Centre
(King Edward at Mann): Special rates on membership and activities are
available upon presentation of an. A/
E UID
card. For current rates, see the Sports Services’ web site at www.uottawa.ca/sports/english/services/fees.html.
