Welcome to the University of Ottawa Community Legal Clinic 

The University of Ottawa Community Legal Clinic provides legal services to the Ottawa community. Staffed by lawyers and law students, the University of Ottawa Community Legal Clinic provides public legal education, legal advice, representation at court for a variety of civil, criminal, and tenant-related matters. We also assist women who have been victims of violence obtain compensation, and have a unique aboriginal division with aboriginal law students who provide legal services to members of Ottawa's aboriginal community. 

The University of Ottawa Community Legal Clinic primarily serves low income people, students, and members of historically disadvantaged groups. Our services are provided free of charge. Our services are provided by law students who are supervised by staff lawyers. We provide our services in both French and English. 

In this website, you will find information about our different divisions, the types of cases we take, our criteria for accepting cases, as well as information on how law students can join the University of Ottawa Community Legal Clinic as for-credit students, volunteers, or summer employees.

Mondays: 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm 
Tuesday to Friday: 9:00 am to 12:00 pm and 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm 
Saturday and Sunday: Closed

Hours for Client Intake Sessions 

Monday: 7:00 pm to 9:30 pm 
Wednesday: 7:00 pm to 9:30 pm 
Thursday: 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm 

Please note that the University of Ottawa Community Legal Clinic closes for exams during December and April and at the end of January each year and does not conduct intake sessions during those times. 

Notary Hour 

During Notary Hour, the University of Ottawa Community Legal Clinic provides notary services to students. This includes certifying true copies of original documents and swearing or affirming documents that are to be used in or outside Ontario. This is a free service for levy-paying undergraduate students of the University of Ottawa and Carleton University, but other students will be asked to pay a fee for notary services. 

Notary hour is held on Wednesdays between 2:00 pm and 3:00 pm. 

Carleton University Satellite Clinic 

Located at Room 614 in the University Centre (inside the Graduate Students Association offices) at Carleton University, the Carleton Legal Clinic allows students of Carleton University to consult with supervised law students regarding tenant issues, minor criminal charges, civil and human rights complaints, as well as providing information for women who have been victims of violence. Additionally, the Carleton Legal Clinic provides notary services to Carleton University undergraduate students. Contact the Clinic for our notary schedule.
