Access to Banner

How do I access Banner for the first time?
If you are a Banner user, you will need to follow these steps:

1. Go to the following link: http://www.uottawa.ca/erp/en/system_access.html (you can also access the page by clicking on the “Fusion/ERP Systems Login” link on the left navigation menu of the Fusion/ERP website).

2. Select the “Banner INB” link.

Note:  You must log into Banner before opening a FAST session.

3. Some users will receive a message prompting them to install Java (J2SE) on their computer. You must proceed with the installation process until it is completed.

4. Your user name is the same as your Exchange account (e.g. John Smith = jsmith).

5. The password you will use to access the system is made up of the year (last two digits only), month and day of your birth date as well as the last two digits of your employee number (YYMMDDEE).

6. You will then be obligated to change your password. The password of your choice must have a minimum of 8 characters.

7. Please note that your password will expire every 30 days and will need to be renewed.

8. Also note that your Banner account will be locked-out after 5 consecutive unsuccessful logins, in which case your password will need to be reset by the Computing Help Centre (6555).

9. Your user name and new password are the same for the FAST application.

10. To speed up the log in process, we suggest that you bookmark the system links and/or create a desktop icon that will lead you directly to Banner and/or FAST. Click here to learn how to do this.

Do I need to install anything before using Banner?
You will need to install Java (J2SE) if it is not already installed. Java can be downloaded here. You should, however, be prompted to install Java and directed to a download link when you first access Banner.

I am getting an error message similar to “[Image File] NAME ,KMBT250, #625”. What is this?
If you received this message, it is because you have Jinitiator installed, you have been using Banner before it went into production and you are using the old Banner link that still uses the Oracle Jinitiator. This causes a conflict between the Java plugin and Jinitiator.

To resolve this problem, you must:

  1. Go to “Control Panel”
  2. Double click on "Add Remove program"
  3. Find Oracle Jinitiator 1.x.25 and/or 1.x.18 4.
  4. Click on “Change/Remove” and uninstall
  5. Close all windows
  6. Use the Banner production link available at http://www.uottawa.ca/erp/en/system_access.html

I am getting the following FRM-92101 error. What does this mean?

timeout error

Your session has been timed out due to inactivity for a period of 30 minutes and you need to log back into the system.

The Human Resources form I signed indicates that I must only access the system on campus. What if I need to work from home?
You can use the uOttawa VPN Client if you are working from home. This software ensures a secure way to access the University’s wireless network. You can download the VPN Client by clicking here.
