The University takes the health and safety of its students very seriously, and understands that the H1N1 flu virus is a great source of concern for parents. Rest assured that the University is taking the H1N1 pandemic very seriously, and has implemented numerous measures to limit the spread of the virus and to ensure students get through this pandemic with minimal impact on their academic progress.
For now, the University's regular policies and procedures continue to apply. The University is monitoring developments closely and, if necessary, policies and regulations may be adjusted for added flexibility. To date, only a limited number of students have come down with the flu. Students who have become sick generally report being laid low for two or three days followed by two or three days to recover.
This web site provides the most accurate and up to date information on the current situation as well as any new procedures that have been implemented at the University. Parents and students are encouraged to visit this site regularly. If you have further questions, feel free to direct them to h1n1@uottawa.ca. The University expects the number of inquiries to rise in the coming weeks and as a result, response time may increase. The University will do its best to respond as quickly as possible and greatly appreciates your patience during this time.
Students who believe they have the flu should:
- avoid all contact with others and stay in isolation;
- fill in the self-declaration form posted above and inform their professors;
- Ontario residents should call Telehealth Ontario for advice at 1-866-797-0000 (ATS : 1-866-797-0007);
- Quebec residents should contact Infosanté for advice at 8-1-1.
Students living in residence
Students with flu symptoms living in residences are asked to stay in their rooms; however masks are available if they have to leave. Students in residence who are ill may also have food delivered to their room so that they do not have to go to a dining hall.
