On a mobile device or other Email application
Before you start, enable IMAP in your Gmail settings.
Generating a Google Token to use Gmail with:
- A mobile device
- A desktop mail client such as Microsoft Outlook, Mozilla Thunderbird, or Apple Mail
If you would like to set up your mobile device to access your @uOttawa.ca Gmail account or you would prefer to use an email program such as Microsoft Outlook, Mozilla Thunderbird, or Apple Mail instead of a web browser to access Gmail, you need a separate Google Apps password. We call this your Google Token. It is not the same as the @uOttawa.ca password you use to access your Google Apps account through a web browser.
How to get your Google Token
- Go to the new uoZone student portal and log in with your credentials.
- In Key Applications, select Email Management.
Note: If you have not yet gone through the sign-up process, you need to do this first. - On the Status page, click on Set up your @uOttawa.ca Google account on a mobile device or email application.
- Click Generate Google Token. A 16-character string will appear.
- Use your Google Token to set up your desired mobile devices or mail clients. Refer to the tabs at the left side of the screen for further instructions.
Note: Use this token to set up either your mail client(s) or mobile device(s). You can change your Google Token. If you do, your current token will no longer be valid. We recommend you store your new token somewhere safe if you need to set up multiple devices or clients.
Protect your Google Token!

- In Key Applications select Email Management.
- On the Status page, click on Set up a mobile token.
