Google Apps at uOttawa

Sign-up process

There are three steps involved in signing up for your @uOttawa.ca Google account:

  1. Sign-up
  2. Account activation
  3. Webmail transfer (students with Webmail accounts only)

Sign-up

  1. Log into the new uoZone on the University's student gateway page. Select Email management in Key applications.
  2. Students with Webmail accounts only: Select the "Yes" option.
  3. Review the Terms of Service for Google Apps and check "I agree to the Terms of Service." to proceed.
  4. Choose a password. This will be the password for the new @uOttawa.ca Google account, and your password for the student computer labs in Montpetit, Faculty of Arts, and Health Sciences. The password must be a minimum of seven characters long and must include at least three of the following: uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters (excluding accents and spaces).
  5. Re-enter the same password in the confirmation box.
  6. Click Continue.
  7. You will then be taken to a page that displays the status of your @uOttawa.ca Google account activation and Webmail transfer. This page will also contain a link to the @uOttawa.ca Google account login page.
  8. If you wish to change your password, log into the new uoZone (www.uOttawa.ca/students) and navigate to uoAccess from My account under your name in the top right corner.

Account activation

New students: Your account has already been created.

Students with Webmail accounts only: Once you agree to the Terms of Service, the process to activate your @uOttawa.ca Google account begins.

Activation may take up to 24 hours. Once activation is complete, you will receive an email in your personal email inbox and in your @uOttawa.ca Google account inbox with instructions on how to access your @uOttawa.ca Google account.

From this point on, all emails sent to your @uOttawa.ca address will appear in the new @uOttawa.ca Google account Inbox.

Webmail transfer (students with Webmail accounts only)

As soon as your account is activated, you enter the queue to have your Webmail account email and contacts transferred to your new @uOttawa.ca Google account. Once the transfer begins, you will no longer be able to access your old Webmail account. The transfer process may take anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour, depending on the volume of data to be transferred. The entire process, from sign-up to Webmail message transfer may take up to 48 hours.

Once the transfer is complete, an email will be sent to your @uOttawa.ca Google account and to your personal email account to confirm that the transfer has been successful.
