Accessibility Policy at Health Services (UOHS)
The University of Ottawa Health Services (UOHS) strives to provide services that are accessible to all of our patients which also respects the dignity and independence of people with disabilities. We are committed to offering equal opportunity for all our patients to access our services in the same locations, and in a similar way. This commitment is consistent with UOHS’ mission to deliver services in a supportive and caring environment that is open and transparent to social or income factors.
UOHS has established policies, practices and procedures that support the accessibility standards for customer service established under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA).
UOHS will make all reasonable efforts to meet the needs of people with disabilities. UOHS defines reasonable efforts as providing the best possible services within the context of available resources, balancing the needs of people with disabilities with others who may encounter barriers to access, and the health and safety of UOHS service providers.
The University of Ottawa Health Services will carry out functions and responsibilities in the following areas:
- Provide services in a manner that respects the dignity and independence of people with disabilities
- Provide people with disabilities an equal opportunity to learn about, use or benefit from UOHS services ensuring that all patients receive the same value and quality of care;
- Communicate in a manner that respects our patients’ individual needs and takes into account use of assistive devices, service animal and support persons when providing goods and services.
Notices of Temporary Disruption
University of Ottawa Health Services will provide patients with notice in the event of a planned or unexpected disruption to the facilities or services accessed by people with disabilities.
