ICON Fees

Message to Patients: Not all of the services that your physician provides to you are insured through OHIP. As a result there is a fee that must be paid at the time of the visit.

Uninsured medical services are not covered by the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) and may be charged directly to the patient (or third party) at the discretion of the physician. Third Party services are defined as any service (including an annual health exam) received by a patient which, in whole or in part, is necessary for the production or completion of a document or transmission of information to satisfy the requirements of a party other than the patient.

The Quebec National Flag

Amendment to Notice to Quebec (RAMQ) patients that took effect on September 1st, 2012: Effective September 17th, 2012, our Quebec (RAMQ) patients will only be required to pay a $20 non-refundable fee at each visit.

UOHS would like to thank all of our patients for the feedback regarding the recent change to our billing policy for RAMQ patients.

We recognize that a $60 fee at every visit, compounded by a possible three month delay for reimbursement by RAMQ, is not feasible for some of our patients.

Effective immediately, UOHS is amending the billing policy such that RAMQ patients will only be required to pay a $20 fee per visit.  This is a non-refundable expense for health-care services provided by a family doctor, to be paid at the time of the appointment.  The $20 visit fee bridges the gap between the OHIP medical services rates and the lower RAMQ rates.  Patients will be asked to sign the out-of-province claim form at each visit, which will allow RAMQ to pay the provider the remaining cost. The $20 visit fee is for family medicine and walk-in clinic visits.

For more information, read the UOHS Letter to Patients (PDF).

Students from the University of Ottawa and Saint-Paul University are exempt from this visit fee but will be asked to sign the out of province claim form at each visit.

Patients on the social assistance program or the social solidarity program may apply for payment exemption by completing the UOHS Quebec Patient Application for Fee Exemption Form (PDF) or by contacting 613-564-3950, ext. 448 to request an application by mail.
