***You will be unable to withdraw from a course after this deadline. If you do not officially withdraw by the deadline but simply stop attending a course, the mark on your transcript will appear as a failure.

****A student registered for a supplemental exam which is written outside the University of Ottawa is responsable for expenses incurred at the visiting institution.

*****100% financial credit applies only when students are registered exclusively to thesis and when they were registered to the thesis in the previous session

(1) Access to courses as a special student is limited. Consult the web site of the Faculty or School concerned for further information.

(2) Courses begin September 7, 2011 at the Faculty of Law -Common Law section. Courses begin January 3, 2012 at the Faculty of Law-Common Law section.

(3) Exam period - It might be necessary to hold exams at night for day courses and vice-versa. Exams might also be planned during the weekends during daytime or nighttime.

(4)Rights to supplemental exams in "Droit civil" and Common Law as well as the supplemental exam dates are determined by the Faculty of Law.

(5) During the Fall Study Break, courses offered by the faculties of Arts, Social Sciences, Science, Engineering, Health Sciences, Education (graduate studies only), Law (Droit Civil section only), and the Telfer School of Management are cancelled. However, some exceptions may apply in certain disciplines in both undergraduate and graduate studies. Co-op internships and other clinical or non-clinical placements are still taking place. During the Winter Study Break, courses offered by the faculties of Arts, Social Sciences, Sciences, Engineering, Health Sciences, Education (graduate studies only), Law (Droit Civil section only), and the Telfer School of Management are cancelled. However, Co-op internships and other clinical or non-clinical placements are still taking place.

(6) On Wednesday, December 7, 2011, students must follow their Monday course schedule. Courses normally held on Wednesday, December 7, will not be held. This adjustment applies to all courses, without exception. However, CO-OP internships and other clinical or non-clinical placements are not affected. If you have any questions, please contact staff at your academic unit.

On Tuesday, April 10, 2012, students must follow their Friday course schedule. Courses normally held on Tuesday, April 10, will not be held. This adjustment applies to all courses, without exception. However, CO-OP internships and other clinical or non-clinical placements are not affected. If you have any questions, please contact staff at your academic unit.

(7) Clinical placements offered on all campuses and regular courses offered in Pembroke, St-Boniface and Woodroffe are still taking place.

(8) February 21, 2012- Common Law students must follow their Monday course schedule on Tuesday February 21, 2012. Courses normally held on Tuesday, February 21, will not be held. This adjustment applies to all CML courses, without exception.


Changes to important dates and deadlines

Changes to important dates and deadlines for 2011-2012 are listed below. Please click the links to see important dates for a specific session.

Christmas break
The Christmas break has been extended by a number of days. It will usually start no later than December 23 and end no earlier than January 5. This year, it will run from December 23, 2011, to January 8, 2012, inclusively. However, the University will be open starting on January 3, 2012 (Tuesday).

Study break
Efforts have been made to standardize the length of the fall and winter sessions to 60 days. A study break will continue to be scheduled whenever possible. For the fall 2011 session, there will be a study break on December 8.

Last day for withdrawal with 100% financial credit
You now have more time to organize your schedule at the start of each session. The deadline to drop a course or activity and receive a 100% financial credit has been extended to

  • the last working day in September for the fall session
  • the last working day in January for the winter session

For the 2011-2012 academic year, the deadlines are September 30 for the fall session and January 31 for the winter session.

Note that the last day to register for a course (a late registration fee applies) is September 21 for the fall session and January 23 for the winter session.

Last day for withdrawal—no financial credit
You have approximately two additional weeks to decide whether or not to drop a course or activity; however, you will not receive a financial credit. For the 2011-2012 academic year, the deadlines are November 18, 2011, for the fall session and March 16, 2012, for the winter session.

Exception: Graduate students will receive a 50% financial credit if they submit their thesis before the deadline in the university calendar, on the Important Dates and Deadlines Web page.

Service fee – payment after September 30
Please pay your tuition fees by the deadline shown on your electronic invoice. The payment deadline is for fall and winter session tuition fees. If you pay any part of your tuition fees after September 30 or defer your registration to the 2012 winter session after September 30, a $20 administrative charge will be added automatically to your account.

Note that there is no longer a $35 deferred payment fee.
