A great ambassador of the French language passes away

OTTAWA, January 25, 2010  —  The University of Ottawa is saddened to learn of the passing of Françoise Lepage, author and a professor at the Département de français for more than 10 years.

Françoise Lepage taught children’s literature during her years here at the University. In 2001, she became director of “Voix didactiques – Auteurs,” a collection published by Édition David. In 2004, she became director of the collection “Cavales,” published by Les Éditions L’Interligne. Beginning in 2003, Françoise Lepage dedicated her time to her work as an essayist, literary journalist and novelist.

She was author of Histoire de la littérature pour la jeunesse: Québec et francophonies du Canada, which was followed by the Dictionnaire des auteurs et des illustrateurs. Published in 2000 by Éditions David, Histoire de la littérature pour la jeunesse: Québec et francophonies du Canada won her the Gabrielle Roy Prize that same year, the Prix Champlain in 2001 and an Ottawa Book Award in 2002. She penned two other books on children’s literature: Daniel Mativat, a study of two novels by this author written for elementary and high school teachers (Éditions David, 2003), and Paule Daveluy ou la passion des mots (Éditions Pierre Tisseyre, 2003), the biography of a literary pioneer and author of L’été enchanté (1959), a classic of Quebec literature for young women. Paule Daveluy ou la passion des mots was an Ottawa Book Award finalist in 2003.

The University would like to express its sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Françoise Lepage.
