Music at Tabaret
8 p.m., Tabaret Hall, Room 112 (550 Cumberland Street)
The School of Music will host its third concert in its Music at Tabaret series titled Anniversary Bash. The group of musicians will celebrate the anniversaries of four outstanding 20th century composers including Gustav Mahler, Carl Reinecke, Samuel Barber and Ernö Dohnlá. The evening will conclude with Dohnányi’s heroic sextet. All proceeds collected from this event will support the School of Music Scholarship Fund. Lecture – India and China in the World Economy
2:30 p.m., Desmarais Building, Room 3105 (55 Laurier Ave East)
The Centre for International Policy Studies (CIPS) presents a lecture titled “India and China in the world economy: Conflict, competition, collaboration? ” by Louis W. Pauly, director of the Centre for International Studies at the University of Toronto. Mr. Pauly’s research projects centre on the political context around the technological innovation in Eastern Asia and on the collaborative management of crisis in the integrated financial market. 19th Annual “A Toast to Success” Business Dinner

Charting Future Directions in Gender, Sex and Health Research
2 p.m., Desmarais Hall, Room 12102 (55 Laurier Ave East)
The Institute of Population Health (IPH) welcomes professors Joy Johnson and Blye Frank from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research's (CIHR) Institute of Gender and Health who will present a lecture titled Charting Future Directions in Gender, Sex and Health Research. Dr. Johnson is the scientific director of CIHR’s Institute of Gender and Health as well as professor at the School of Nursing of the University of British Columbia. Dr. Frank chairs the Institute Advisory Board at CIHR’s Institute of Gender and Health and is a professor and head of Division of Medical Education and of the Department of Bioethics at Dalhousie University. Fourth Annual David Makow Lecture on Tolerance and Intolerance

This multidisciplinary lecture series explores cross-cultural issues in the hope of inspiring Canadian students to become agents of change on the world stage. Dr. Neil Turok, Director of the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics will present a lecture titled The Next Einstein Initiative. Graduate Studies and Engineering Research Day
10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., 1st Floor Atrium, SITE (800 King Edward Avenue)
The Graduate Studies and Engineering Research Day gives the Ottawa High-Tech Industry a chance to view the next generation of engineering innovators and entrepreneurs during this annual research competition between the graduate students of the Faculty of Engineering. From 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., graduate students will present their research and answer questions. An awards ceremony will follow from 4 p.m to 5 p.m. when the winners will be available to answer questions. For more information, visit the Faculty of Engineering web site.

Conference on the developpement in an evolution world

Lecture on the State Coercion and Insurgent Violence in Civil Wars

The Centre for International Policy Studies (CIPS) presents a talk by Jason Lyall titled State Coercion and Insurgent Violence in Civil Wars: Evidence from Airstrikes in Afghanistan, 2006-09. Mr. Lyall is a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Department of Political Science at Yale University. He is also affiliated with the Institution for Social and Policy Studies (ISPS) and the MacMillan Center for International and Area Studies. University of Ottawa Orchestra
8 p.m., Saint Brigid’s Centre for the Arts and Humanities (314 St. Patrick Street, Ottawa)
The School of Music presents its next concert in the Orchestra Series titled Night. This concert features the University of Ottawa Orchestra, the Calixa Lavallée Ensemble and Choral Ensemble, all under the direction of guest conductor Rennie Regehr, currently a Visiting Professor in the School of Music. The program includes Tchaikovsky – Symphony No. 6, Penderecki – Threnody to the Victims of Hiroshima and Debussy – Nocturnes (with the Calixa Lavallée Ensemble and Choral Ensemble).
