Scientific Café

The Canadian Institute of Health Research in collaboration with the University of Ottawa present a Scientific Café titled The Human Genome Project Ten Years Later : Has the Promise Been Realized? Experts including Dr. David Castle – Canada Research Chair in Science and Society at uOttawa, Dr. David Secko - Department of Journalism at the University of Concordia, Dr. Ahmed El-Sohemy – Canada Research Chair in Nutrigenomics at the University of Toronto with moderator Dr. Shane Green – Outreach Director at the Ontario Genomics Institute, will discuss why the grand predictions have subsided nearly a decade after the publication of the Humane Genome Project which, at the turn of the millennium, was heralded as one of the most important discoveries of all time. Panel on Organ Donation

The Health Student Association, Law and Technology Student Society in partnership with the Bertram Loeb Chair in Organ and Tissue Donation and support of the Faculty of Law, Common Law Section, present a panel titled The Changing Face of Death: Legal and Ethical Issues in Organ Donation. Speakers include Dr. Sam Shemie of the Bertram Loeb Chair in Organ and Tissue Donation, University of Ottawa, Dr. Stuart Younger, professor of Bioethics and of Psychiatry, Case Western Reserve University, Hilary Young, professor of Law at the University of Ottawa, and Emile Therien, Board of Directors and Treasurer of the Ontario Community Council on Impaired Driving. Lecture on Global Intellectual Property

Greenberg Chair for Women and the Legal Profession present a conference titled Global Intellectual Property Intersectionality. Maggie Chon, associate dean for Research and Donald and Lynda Horowitz, professor for the Pursuit of Justice with the Seattle University School of Law will present the lecture. Science and Engineering Olympics
9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Canadian Museum of Science and Technology (1867 St-Laurent Blvd, Ottawa)
The University of Ottawa is proud to announce that it will once again hold the 2010 Science and Engineering Olympics for students from grades 7 to 12. The goal of this activity is to educate youth and to develop student’s potential in logical and analytical thinking while encouraging team spirit, cooperation, and friendship.
