Professors Parent and Werthner make headlines during Winter Olympics

OTTAWA, February 16, 2010  —  Honours are raining down on Professor Milena Parent these days: not only is she the 2010 uOttawa recipient of the Young Researcher of the Year Award, but she has been nominated Personality of the Week Le Droit-Radio-Canada [external site, in French only]. Professor Parent from the School of Human Kinetics in the Faculty of Health Sciences is an expert in sport management and is presently in Vancouver on secondment to VANOC to oversee the multi-faceted International Client Services at UBC Thunderbird Arena.

Another professor from the Faculty of Health Sciences’ School of Human Kinetics, Penny Werthner, and her PhD student Margaret Dupee worked with Olympic gold medalist Alexandre Bilodeau as part of the “Own the podium” initiative — a project to help Canadian athletes dominate the 2010 Winter Games. Prof. Werthner’s work focused on helping athletes control their physical and mental response in the moments before competing.
