Conference on the Arab-Israel Conflict

The Centre for International Policy Studies (CIPS) in collaboration with the Israel Scholars Network are presenting a conference titled The Arab-Israel Conflict: Understanding the Current Impasse presented by Dr. Barry Rubin, Director of the Global Research in International Affairs (GLORIA) Center at the Interdisciplinary Centre. Mr. Rubin is one of the best known authors on the Arab-Israel conflict, terrorism, and general Middle Eastern security and history. Slave Children

Twenty years after the International Convention on the Rights of the Child, the goal of protection remains evasive. Tens of millions of children are in actual fact slaves used in agriculture, domestic services, sex trade, textile, construction and many other sectors. The School of International Development and Global Studies (SIDGS) in collaboration with the International Bureau of Children’s Rights present a round-table where a number of experts will discuss the causes and consequences of the issue of children as slaves. Panelists include Dr. Najat Maalla M’Jid, special UN reporter on the sale of children, child prostitution and child pornography; Najda Pollaert and Marco Sotelo of the International Bureau of Children’s Rights; Lucie Lamarche of the Human Rights Research and Education Centre at uOttawa; Linda Dale of the Children and Youth as Peacebuilders; Nadine Grant of Plan-International and Andrea Martinez, Director of the SIDGS. Lecture on Ethnic Policies and Armed Conflict in the Post-War World

Shirley Greenberg Annual Lecture in Women’s Studies

The Institute of Women’s Studies invites Andrea Smith, Assistant Professor with the Department of Media and Cultural Studies at the University of California who will present a lecture titled Decolonizing Social Justice: The Anti-Violence Movement and the Non-Profit Industrial Complex. Mrs. Smith is also the Riverside co-founder of INCITE! - Women of color against Violence and the Boarding School Healing Project. Signing Ceremony for Engineering Articulation Agreements

The University of Ottawa will host a special ceremony as the region’s postsecondary institutions gather for a special announcement. The University of Ottawa, Carleton University, La Cité collégiale and Algonquin College will announce and sign articulation agreements designed to ease the transfer of engineering students from college to university.
