Launch of the uOttawa Centre for Law, Technology and Society

OTTAWA, March 2, 2010  —  The Faculty of Law at University of Ottawa recently created a new Centre for Law, Technology and Society. In order to formally launch this new Centre, a one-day, multidisciplinary conference entitled, “Taking Stock of Tech: Reflections on Law, Technology and Society” will take place on Friday, March 5, 2010 in Tabaret Hall at the University of Ottawa.

Leading thinkers from a variety of fields including law, public policy, sociology and engineering will explore the legal, social, political and cultural implications of technologies through multiple lenses. At the heart of the debate will be an exploration of what – if any – paradigm shifts technological developments compel, and how stakeholder-led discourse affects public dialogue.

Yochai Benkler, Professor of Entrepreneurial Legal Studies, Harvard Law School and Faculty co-director, Berkman Center for Internet and Society, will give the keynote address entitled, “Understanding the Policy Challenges of Next Generation Connectivity.” Other featured panelists include Colette Cuijpers, Assistant Professor, Tilburg University; Harlan Onsrud, Professor, University of Maine, Daniel Schuman, Policy Counsel, Sunlight Foundation, Washington; Shaheen Shariff, Associate Professsor, McGill University; David Eaves, Public Policy Consultant; and Shayla Thiel-Stern, Assistant Professor, University of Minnesota.
