University of Ottawa professor elected Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science

OTTAWA, March 4, 2010  —  The University of Ottawa is proud to announce that R. Tom Baker, professor at the Department of Chemistry and Canada Research Chair in Catalysis Science for Energy Applications, has been elected Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS).

Recently recruited by the University of Ottawa from the Los Almos National Lab in New Mexico, R. Tom Baker explores the development of new catalysis processes that would maximize both the storage of hydrogen and its release in fuel cells, thus improving fuel efficiency and reducing waste.

“Professor Baker’s outstanding work in building the road to greener and more sustainable energy applications demonstrates why he warrants election as a Fellow of the AAAS,” says Mona Nemer, uOttawa’ s vice-president, research. “Tom and his team greatly contribute to the University of Ottawa’s reputation as a leading-edge research institution involved in pressing issues of global importance.”
