University of Ottawa participates in Bottled Water-Free Day and modernizes water fountains on campus
OTTAWA, March 10, 2010 — The University of Ottawa is proud to be taking part in a full day without bottled water on Thursday, March 11, and invites the entire community to join in the effort to raise awareness about the environmental impact and risks associated with bottled water.
Students, faculty, staff and other members of the uOttawa community are encouraged to find other ways of quenching their thirst for water throughout the day, such as filling up cups, glasses and re-usable bottles at the nearest fountain or tap on campus.
The University of Ottawa is also proud to announce that it has invested over $100,000 since 2008 to revitalize its water fountains and that an additional $75,000 will be invested next year.
The improvements include gooseneck fountains for quick and easy filling of re-usable bottles, new fountains near food service outlets, upgrades to existing fountains, wheelchair accessibility, stronger pressure and better refrigeration.
The University of Ottawa, Canada’s University, contributes significantly to the development of clean technologies and encourages environmental awareness and advancement initiatives both on and off campus.
