University of Ottawa’s CO-OP program celebrates its 30th anniversary and continues to grow

OTTAWA, March 22, 2010  —  As part of International CO-OP week, the University of Ottawa is proud to celebrate the 30th anniversary of its CO-OP program, one of the most vigorous Co-operative education programs in the country, and is calling upon Canada’s businesses and organizations to support and train tomorrow’s professionals.

Introduced in 1980, the CO-OP program now welcomes more than 700 students every year from seven faculties. These students are eager to bring their education to a higher practical level. The stellar reputation of the program has attracted more and more students every year. This year the program is looking to place almost 2,000 students.

Over the years, the University has partnered with some of the most influential public and private employers in Canada and abroad, in order to give its CO-OP students the highest level of practical experience and to help them become leaders in their fields. Over 4,500 employers including IBM Cognos, Research in Motion (RIM), PCL Constructors and Deloitte & Touche have demonstrated their confidence in uOttawa students by hiring and training hundreds over the years.

The Government of Canada has also been among the most committed employers of University of Ottawa students. Situated in the nation‘s capital, our institution and our CO-OP program have developed strong links with various government organizations. Several success stories have emerged from these linkages. Here is just one example.

Over the next year, the University of Ottawa will celebrate the achievements and success of its CO-OP program by organizing different activities and events featuring our students, alumni and the various employers.
