University of Ottawa, La Cité collégiale and Algonquin College announce the creation of two new programs

OTTAWA, March 25, 2010  —  The University of Ottawa announced the creation of two new media studies programs in collaboration with La Cité collégiale and Algonquin College — an Honours Bachelor in Journalism and an Honours Bachelor in Public Relations. The partnership between the University of Ottawa and area colleges, blending professional and technical training with theoretical training, gives students the ability to benefit from a complete and diversified learning experience and ensures an excellent preparation for the job market.

Students who choose the Honours Bachelor in Journalism in collaboration with La Cité Collégiale (French program) and Algonquin College (English program) or the Honours Bachelor in Public Relations (the only program of its kind offered jointly by a university and a college in Ontario) can follow one of two paths. In the first instance, students are registered for five semesters at the University of Ottawa and complete their training at a college. Conversely, students can begin their studies at a college and then complete their five semesters at the University of Ottawa.

A 90-credit joint Bachelor of Journalism with La Cité Collégiale has been offered since 1998 and with Algonquin College since 2002.

The University will focus on theoretical, critical and analytical thinking. The college dimension will give students solid professional and technical training. Both new programs will give students the choice of pursuing graduate studies.

Students registered for these programs will receive two diplomas — an honours bachelor degree from the University of Ottawa and a college diploma.
