MEDIA ADVISORY: The University of Ottawa to host an important international symposium on Haiti

OTTAWA, April 1, 2010  —  The University of Ottawa’s School of International Development and Global Studies will host an international symposium on the reconstruction and development of Haiti on Tuesday, April 6 and Wednesday, April 7, 2010.

The symposium titled Haiti today, Haiti tomorrow: Contrasting perspectives, differs from previous conferences that have been held since the humanitarian crisis in Haiti this past January by the significant number of Haitian participants and the diverse areas of expertise of the delegates (governments, development agencies, United Nations, NGOs, universities, the Haitian community).

During this two-day symposium, the keynote speakers and delegates will tackle the following question: How can the crisis in Haiti be transformed into an opportunity for equitable, sustainable and endogenous Haitian development?

Please note that the first and last plenary sessions will be open to the public and to the media.

WHEN: Tuesday, April 6, 2010 from 9 a.m. to noon
