Two uOttawa professors among Capital Educators’ Awards recipients

OTTAWA, May 21, 2010  —  Professors Eileen O’Connor from the School of Human Kinetics at the Faculty of Health Sciences, and Maurice Taylor from the Faculty of Education were honoured yesterday with a Capital Educators’ Award at the ninth annual EduGala.

Eileen O’Connor is an assistant professor in the School of Human Kinetics. She obtained her bachelor’s degree from Trent University, her master’s from Université Laval and her PhD in history from the University of Ottawa. Her research and teaching interests focus on the history of gender, leisure and health, as well as pedagogy and experiential learning. Her current research projects include the development of digital games and e-portfolios to enhance critical thinking and reflective learning.

Maurice Taylor is a professor in the Faculty of Education who has worked to promote the advancement of teaching and knowledge in adult education with a particular focus on Canadian adult literacy learning. Overall, his three main research tracks – adult literacy and basic skills, workplace education and adult development – have involved partnerships with community colleges, school boards, universities, and government and labour organizations.

The Capital Educators' Awards are an initiative of the Ottawa Centre for Research and Innovation (OCRI). They highlight outstanding teachers and professors at all levels who have influenced students’ lives by serving as role models and motivators.
