Vice-president Mona Nemer appointed chevalière de l’Ordre national du Québec

OTTAWA, June 3, 2010  —  The University of Ottawa is proud to announce that Mona Nemer, vice-president, research, and a researcher in the field of molecular biology, has been appointed chevalière de l’Ordre national du Québec, one of the most prestigious honours awarded by the government of Quebec. Professor Nemer will be inducted today during a special ceremony at the Quebec National Assembly.

Mona Nemer has a PhD in bio-organic chemistry from McGill University. Before joining the University of Ottawa, she was a professor of pharmacology at the Université de Montréal, director of the Cardiac Development Research Unit at the Clinical Research Institute of Montreal (IRCM) and a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Cardiovascular Cell Differentiation.

Unwaveringly committed to the education of the next generation of scientists, to the vibrancy of the Francophonie and to the place of women in the fields of science and technology, Mona Nemer is receiving this honour for her wide-ranging contributions to scientific knowledge and the far-reaching impact of her research work.
