University of Ottawa appoints Lucie Allaire as ombudsperson
OTTAWA, June 22, 2010 — The University of Ottawa is proud to announce that Lucie Allaire has been appointed to the newly created position of University ombudsperson.
The mandate of the ombudsperson is to provide members of the University community with an independent, impartial and confidential process that helps them resolve disputes fairly and equitably when existing appeal channels are exhausted.
“Lucie Allaire is a recognized human-resources and conflict-management expert,” says Allan Rock, president of the University of Ottawa. “We’re very proud that the University has created the position of ombudsperson, a joint effort with the Student Federation and the Graduate Students’ Association.”
Lucie Allaire is extremely well versed in negotiation, mediation and dispute resolution. A University of Ottawa alumna who is teaching both mediation and negotiation at Saint Paul University, she is also the founding president of L.A. Management Consulting, which offers mediation and dispute-resolution services to human resources managers.
She has worked at the Canada Public Service Agency as senior advisor to the Vice-President, Informal Conflict Management System, at Industry Canada as Director-General of the Human Resources Branch, and at the Department of National Defence as Director-General of the Conflict Management Program.
The Office of the Ombudsperson will be operational as of September 1, 2010.
