On June 23, 2010, a magnitude 5.0 earthquake shook Ottawa, Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec. This was the strongest earthquake felt in Ottawa in recent history. It resulted in limited damages within the city, while causing the collapse of a bridge just south of Val-des-Bois, Quebec, and seriously damaging another bridge. The earthquake also caused structural damages to a heritage church, a restaurant and a hotel in Gracefield.
