University of Ottawa research gets $6 million boost

OTTAWA, September 1, 2010  —  The University of Ottawa is getting more than $6 million in funding from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC). This research funding will allow more than 50 researchers and 70 students to move forward with their research projects.

The research to be carried out at the University of Ottawa will increase knowledge in such key areas as water management, social inclusion and multiculturalism. This funding has been provided through various SSHRC programs, including Standard Research Grants, Research Development Initiatives, Public Outreach Grants, as well as master’s and doctoral scholarships.

The SSHRC is the federal agency that promotes and supports university-based research and training in the humanities and social sciences. Through its programs and policies, the Council enables the highest levels of research excellence in Canada, and facilitates knowledge sharing and collaboration across research disciplines, universities and all sectors of society.
