University of Ottawa Media Calendar: September 4 to September 10
OTTAWA, September 3, 2010 — After the summer holidays, the University of Ottawa Communications Directorate resumes the weekly distribution of the Media Calendar. New University of Ottawa students begin to move into residences on Labour Day weekend. Community Advisors, residence staff and volunteers will be on site to answer questions and to facilitate the move-in process. President’s Brunch
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Tabaret Lawn, 550 Cumberland Street
President Allan Rock invites students, parents and friends to a brunch on the Tabaret Lawn. This event provides an opportunity to learn about services offered at the University, and to meet professors and other students. No registration is required. Luminata
6 p.m., in the street behind Cafe Nostalgica, 603 Cumberland Street
The University of Ottawa student federations (SFUO and GSAED), as well as the Student Association of the Faculty of Arts (SAFA) present Luminata. Large light installations including suspended lighting with strings of helium balloons will adorn University Private. This free event will also feature circus performers from the Lucent Dossier Experience, graffiti artists from the House of Paint, a Drag show presented by Jer’s Vision & the Pride Center, visual arts from SAFA and music from bands including Mother Mother, Allie Hughes, Antoine Gratton, Brad Morden & the Magic Beans, and DJ brains4breakfast. This event is all-ages.

Makers of Canada Celebration
From 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.,Alumni Auditorium, University Centre, 85 University Private
The Department of History will launch the new distinguished speakers’ series, “Makers of Canada”. This year’s speaker is Senator and former General Romeo D’Allaire. In addition, the ‘Coupes en histoire’ awards will be presented to students and alumni who have made outstanding contributions in the domain of history. Department of Economics 55th Anniversary

Inaugural Unveiling of the Pillars of the Faculty of Arts
From 1:30 to 5 p.m., Courtyard between the Simard Building and the Arts Building, 60 University Private
The Pillars of the Faculty of Arts are dedicated to former staff members who have made a significant contribution to the faculty. This year’s recipients include Bernard Julien, Emmett O’Grady, Dalton McGuinty Sr., W. Glenn Clever, John Spencer Hill, Paul Marcotte, Joseph-Marie Quirion, Françoys Bernier, Douglas Voice, Pierre Savard, Charles Gagnon, Gunter Nolte and Yvan G. Lepage. Following the presentation of the plaques, a reception will be held in the Desmarais Building, Room 12102 (55 Laurier Avenue East, Ottawa). Telfer School of Management 2010 Gala of Excellence
From 5 to 9 p.m., Canadian Museum of Nature, Fourth-floor Gallery, 240 McLeod Street, Ottawa, On, K2P 2R1
The Telfer School of Management will host a dinner and awards presentation honouring outstanding alumni, including Derek Beckley (President of the Genus Group), David S. Logan (Founding partner of Logan Katz LLP), Lynda Partner (CEO of Partners Inc.), Carl Napper (Partner and Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Maplesoft Group), and Dean Karakasis (Executive Director of the Building Owners and Managers Association). Alumni celebrating their 10th, 25th, or 40th anniversary of graduating are invited to attend, no payment required. For all others interested in attending the Gala, the fee is $100 per person.
