Professors Daniel Castillo Durante and Katherine Lippel elected Fellows of the Royal Society of Canada

OTTAWA, September 17, 2010  —  The Royal Society of Canada has elected 75 new Fellows, among them University of Ottawa professorsDaniel Castillo Durante and Katherine Lippel.

A full professor in the Département defrançais, Faculty of Arts, Daniel Castillo Durante is an Argentinean-born researcher, essayist and novelist who views literature as a tool for research and experimentation reflecting on all human sciences. His books depict a world where hybridity, market globalization and cultural crossbreeding challenge stereotypes.

A full professor in the Faculty of Law, Civil Law Section, Katherine Lippel is a specialist in occupational health and safety law. Her research engages with the legal frameworks for workplace injury prevention, work-related injury claims and rehabilitation, and the effects of the legislative context on employee health and well-being.

Election to the academies of the Royal Society of Canada is the highest honour a scholar can achieve in the arts, humanities and sciences.

The 75 Fellows elected this year are from diverse backgrounds and disciplines, yet all of them have been chosen by their peers in recognition of outstanding scholarly, scientific and artistic achievement.
