OTTAWA, September 24, 2010  —  The University of Ottawa is proud to welcome alumnus Alex Trebek to its campus as part of the 2010 Homecoming celebrations. Trebek will be participating in the University of Ottawa high school reunion, along with current uOttawa President, Allan Rock.

WHAT: Alex Trebek visits uOttawa as part of the 2010 Homecoming celebrations

WHEN: Today, Friday, September 24, 2010, 7:00 p.m.

WHERE: Tabaret Hall, room 112, 550 Cumberland, Ottawa

Born and raised in Sudbury, Ontario, Alex Trebek graduated from the University of Ottawa high school in 1957 and from the University itself with a degree in Philosophy in 1961. He joined the CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Company), Canada's premier network in 1961. While there, he worked in national news and covered a variety of special events for CBC's radio and television divisions, receiving high praise as a broadcaster who retained his poise and composure in the toughest places. Then, in 1966, he became a Canadian game show host on Reach for the Top, and stayed there for seven years until he migrated to the United States to host his very first game show in that country, The Wizard of Odds (1973), for NBC. He went on to host such varied game shows as High Rollers, Double Dare, Classic Concentration and others.

Alex began hosting Jeopardy! in 1984 and returned to NBC in 1987 to host the revamped version of Classic Concentration.

In 2010, Jeopardy! will celebrate a milestone by celebrating its 6000th episode. Today, as Alex begins his 27th year as host, he remains as popular as ever. Alex has won 5 Daytime Emmy Awards as Outstanding Game Show Host, received a star on both the Canadian and Hollywood Walks of Fame, and, this year, was described as one of the Top 10 Canadians on U.S. Television.

University of Ottawa alumni will gather once again on campus for Homecoming Weekend this year, from September 23 to 26. The array of events hosted by faculties, departments and schools will play a key role in the success of Homecoming Weekend. The University of Ottawa is proud to welcome all the alumni, friends, colleagues and professors who come back to visit our campus.
