Faculty of Law to host forum on challenges awaiting Canada's new Governor General

OTTAWA, September 27, 2010  —  To mark the official swearing-in of Canada’s new Governor General, David Johnston, the University of Ottawa’s Faculty of Law will host a forum entitled  “Canada’s New Governor General:  The Challenges Ahead” on Tuesday, September 28, 2010, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in room 12102 of the Desmarais Building.

Moderated by Evan Solomon, the host of CBC News Network's Power & Politics, the forum will explore topics ranging from fixed election dates and minority governments to how Canada’s constitutional conventions compare with those of the United States and what shape Canada could take if it were to break ties with the monarchy.

The forum will feature presentations from Common Law Section Professors Adam Dodek, Daphne Gilbert, Carissima Mathen, Errol Mendes and Peter Oliver, as well as the Dean of the Civil Law Section, Sébastien Grammond.  University of Ottawa President and Vice-Chancellor Allan Rock will introduce the event.

Audience members will be invited to ask questions of the panel after the presentations.  All are welcome.
