University of Ottawa holding campus-wide virtual forum

OTTAWA, September 29, 2010  —  The University of Ottawa is holding its first-ever virtual forum to gather feedback from its community on a new Global and Community Service Centre. The initiative is designed to become a hub for civic engagement opportunities not only on campus and throughout the region, but also across Canada and around the world.

A first for uOttawa, the virtual forum will focus mainly on identifying the mission and core values of the centre, according to the needs and interests expressed by uOttawa students, staff members, professors and alumni. Everyone is therefore invited to share their ideas, insights and comments on the forum website.

The new centre will revolutionize civic engagement on campus thanks to a slate of programs that provide students, staff, professors and alumni with volunteer placements, international practicums, research projects and community-service learning opportunities of almost every kind.

The University of Ottawa firmly believes in civic engagement, and through the hands-on learning it provides, uOttawa students can take their new knowledge outside the classroom and apply it to real-world situations, lending valuable support and expertise to community agencies and non-profit organizations in the process.

The virtual forum runs until October 5.

For more information, visit the Centre’s website.
