MEDIA ADVISORY: The University of Ottawa Skills and Simulation Centre opens at The Ottawa Hospital

OTTAWA, October 13, 2010  —  The University of Ottawa and The Ottawa Hospital are pleased to announce the official opening, tomorrow, of the University of Ottawa Skills and Simulation Centre (uOSSC), the largest centre of its kind in Canada.

The uOSSC is a partnership of The Ottawa Hospital and the University of Ottawa, and will enhance patient safety by improving the education opportunities for health-care professionals and informing best clinical practice through innovative research. Much like the aviation industry uses flight simulators to train pilots; health-care professionals will use patient simulators at the uOSSC for hands-on training and experience.

The event will include comments from several key speakers, a ribbon cutting, tour of the centre and demonstrations of the patient simulators.

Speakers include:

  • Viren Naik, Medical Director, University of Ottawa Skills and Simulation Centre
  • Dr. Jack Kitts, President and CEO, The Ottawa Hospital
  • Allan Rock, President and Vice-Chancellor, University of Ottawa
  • Mary-Jo Plamondon, Student in Anaesthesia Program
