University of Ottawa and Saint Paul University renew historic agreement
OTTAWA, November 1, 2010 — Allan Rock, President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ottawa, and Chantal Beauvais, Rector of Saint Paul University, have renewed the historic agreement which has linked their two institutions. The agreement, inspired by the initial University of Ottawa Act, will strengthen and confirm the ties that exist between the two universities, federated since 1965.
The agreement ensures strong relations between the University of Ottawa and Saint Paul University. It preserves their respective jurisdictions, while setting out possible areas of collaboration, joint activities and exchanges of services, as part of their federation. It takes into account the historical evolution of the two institutions and the concrete achievements their federation has enabled since 1965. It furthers both the autonomy and the complementary nature of the two institutions.
“We are proud to deepen the collaboration between our two universities, thus allowing students, faculty and staff of both to benefit from sharing programs, services, research and administration,” said Allan Rock, President of the University of Ottawa.
The collaboration between the University of Ottawa and Saint Paul University is wide-ranging, covering everything from the granting of degrees to the use of sports facilities and counselling services. If the past 35 years are any indication, it will allow the two institutions to fulfill their common mission, to enlighten, to provide an ethical foundation for knowledge, to live in harmony and linguistic duality.
Students, faculty and support staff of the University of Ottawa make up a community of approximately 45,000 living, working and studying in a richly diverse environment. Located in the heart of Canada’s capital, the University of Ottawa is one of Canada’s leading research universities.
