Chancellor Huguette Labelle and Emeritus President Gilles G. Patry receive the Order of Ontario
OTTAWA, January 24, 2011 — The University of Ottawa extends its heartfelt congratulations to Chancellor Huguette Labelle and to Emeritus President Gilles G. Patry, who have both received the Order of Ontario.
In addition to her position as chancellor of the University, which she has held since 1994, Huguette Labelle is chair of the Board of Transparency International, vice-president of the Board of CRC SOGEMA, a member of the Board of the UN Global Compact, an external advisor for the implementation of the World Bank Governance and Anti-Corruption Strategy, a member of the Asian Development Bank Advisory Group on Climate Change, a member of the External Advisory Council of the Waterloo Global Science Initiative and a member of the Advisory Committee to the COADY International Institute.
Gilles G. Patry, chief executive officer of the Canadian Foundation for Innovation (CFI), is a professor at the University of Ottawa’s Department of Civil Engineering and School of Information Technology and Engineering. The institution’s president and vice-chancellor from 2001 to 2008, he also served as vice-president academic from 1997 to 2001 and as dean of the Faculty of Engineering from 1993 to 1997. Gilles Patry is not only the first-ever University of Ottawa president to have been born in the region and to have graduated from the school, but also the first to have brought extensive private-sector experience to his post, which proved a tremendous asset throughout his tenure.
Established in 1986 by Lieutenant-Governor Lincoln Alexander, the Order of Ontario is the province’s highest honour and recognizes personal excellence and achievement in every area of human endeavour.
