CBC Radio One broadcasts debate on green growth
OTTAWA, February 1, 2011 — In January, Sustainable Prosperity, along with the University of Ottawa, held a debate on green growth, featuring four of the world’s leading economic experts. This debate, titled Green Growth or No Growth, will be broadcast on Wednesday, February 2 at 9 p.m. ET on CBC Radio One’s Ideas.
Can the planet handle perpetual economic growth? Is it possible to make a switch to “green growth,” for the sake of a healthier economy and environment? If so, how?
The participants include the following global experts:
- Tim Jackson, author of Prosperity Without Growth: Economics for a Finite Planet and economics commissioner with the UK Sustainable Development Commission
- Peter Victor, author of Managing Without Growth: Slower By Design, Not Disaster and economics professor at York University
- Richard Lipsey, one of Canada's pre-eminent economists and author of Economic Transformations: General Purpose Technologies and Long Term Economic Growth (winner of the 2006 Schumpeter Prize)
- Paul Ekins, author of Economic Growth and Environmental Sustainability: The Prospects for Green Growth and chair of the UK Green Fiscal Commission
