University of Ottawa still among region’s top 25 employers

OTTAWA, February 1, 2011  —  For the second straight year, the University of Ottawa has been honoured with a spot among the National Capital Region’s 25 best employers.

In addition to its ideal location in the heart of the capital, the University of Ottawa offers an array of other benefits that make it one of the region’s best places to work, including free tuition for staff, spouses and dependants, a bilingual and multicultural setting and a longstanding commitment to the community.

“I’m glad to see uOttawa recognized in this way, of course, but I feel that it’s a testimony to the quality of those who work here more than anything else. It is great to come to work each day and be surrounded by such a dedicated, talented and diverse group of people. We know that our human resources are our most precious resource, and we are grateful to our support staff and our professors for everything they do to make uOttawa a terrific place to work,” says Allan Rock, president of the University of Ottawa.

The annual National Capital Region's Top 25 Employers award is sponsored by Mediacorp Canada Inc. and is presented to employers that provide exceptional workplaces and offer the most progressive and forward-thinking programs compared with similar organizations. The rigorous selection process is overseen by an advisory board that evaluates the organizations according to specific criteria.

To place in the top 25, organizations must be leaders in their field in terms of physical workplace; work atmosphere and social life; health, financial and family benefits; vacation and time off; employee communications; performance management; training and skills development; and community involvement.
