It is with deep sadness the University announces the passing of Denis Carrier on Monday, February 7, 2011, at the age of 72. Professor Carrier was dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences from 1970 until 1981. He was subsequently named associate vice-president, academic, a position he held until 2001. He was also acting dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences (1989-1990) and the Faculty of Education (1991-1994). Over the years, Denis Carrier made an invaluable contribution to French-language programs and services offered at the University of Ottawa.
A funeral service will be held at the Notre-Dame-de-la-Guadeloupe church, located at 14 de la Guadeloupe in Gatineau (Hull sector), at 11 a.m. on Monday, February 14, 2011. At the request of the family, donations to the Denis-Carrier Scholarship Fund would be greatly appreciated in lieu of flowers.
