University of Ottawa Fourth Annual Coptic Studies Symposium
OTTAWA, February 24, 2011 — The Department of Classics and Religious Studies and the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures of the Faculty of Arts, in collaboration with the Canadian Society for Coptic Studies and the Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt, present the Fourth Annual Coptic Studies Symposium. The day-long event, entitled Coptic Heritage – Dynamics and Diversity, will take place February 26 in the Desmarais Building. Topics discussed will include early Christian literature, art and archaeology, and Copts in modernity.
The keynote speaker is Professor Jacques van der Vliet of the School for Middle Eastern Studies at Leiden University, the Netherlands. He will deliver his lecture in the presence of Ramez Boutros, president of the Canadian Society for Coptic Studies, His Excellency Wael Aboulmagd, ambassador to Canada of the Arab Republic of Egypt, and Professor Antoni Lewkowicz, dean of the University of Ottawa’s Faculty of Arts.
