Symposium: Coptic Heritage – Dynamics and Diversity*

The Faculty of Arts, in collaboration with the Canadian Society for Coptic Studies and the Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt in Canada, presents the Fourth Annual Coptic Studies Symposium, themed “Coptic Heritage – Dynamics and Diversity.” Special guests include His Excellency Wael Ahmed Kamal Aboul Magd, ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt in Canada, Dr. Ramez Boutros, president of the Canadian Society for Coptic Studies, and Antoni Lewkowicz, dean and professor at the University of Ottawa’s Faculty of Arts. Telethon: “Téléthon franco”

The University of Ottawa will host the “Téléthon franco,” featuring the biggest names in Franco-Ontarian. This year’s telethon objective is one million dollars. This event will be held in French. The Department of Visual Arts presents a student exhibition titled “Pouplay.” This exhibit is comprised of 30 paintings demonstrating various perspectives on common object of childhood. Dolls, cars or superheroes potentially lose their innocence when they are taken out of context and given new meaning. Book launch: Sans masque
Dr. Truda Rosenberg, psychologist and Holocaust survivor
4:30 p.m., Desmarais Building, Room 12102 (55 Laurier Ave. E.)
A book launch of the French translation of Dr. Truda Rosenberg’s memoir Unmasked, titled Sans masque (published by the University of Ottawa Press) will be hosted by Marcel Mérette, dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, and Luc Pelletier, director of the School of Psychology. During this event, Dr. Rosenberg, a psychologist and Holocaust survivor, will share accounts of her life-changing experiences as a young Jewish woman of Polish origin, who endured first-hand the persecution from Hitler’s Nazi regime.
