Tunisia, Egypt: Unfolding revolutions and regional repercussions
OTTAWA, March 9, 2011 — The University of Ottawa invites you to a panel discussion with four international experts in Arab affairs. They will discuss the revolutions in Tunisia and Egypt and their regional repercussions.
Panelists:
• Walid El Khachab, expert in Arab world studies (University of Ottawa and York University), will make a presentation entitled A Democracy of Desire: New Media, Shifting Symbols and Arab Becoming.
• Lise Garon, expert on Northern Africa (Université Laval), will talk about the ripple effect of the Tunisia revolution, how far it has gone and how far it may go, from a political communication perspective. (in French)
• Noomane Raboudi, expert on the Arab world (University of Ottawa), will discuss democratic transition in post-Ben Ali Tunisia. (in French)
• May Telmissany, Egyptian-Canadian writer and expert in Arab world studies (University of Ottawa), will talk about the images and music coming out of the revolution, looking at the culture and images of the youth-led revolution and what they mean for the Egypt of today. (in French)
